DJ RICO Soultrain Weekender
Rico’s extensive DJing career began as a weekend hobby with a local sound system aptly named ‘Ballistic. Aptly named because his natural charm and flair for entertainment shot him to fame with his very first residency, club DJ and promoter at the infamous Bojangles nightspot. This first foray into the club scene in the north of England ran so successfully for over 2 years that popular demand and reputation meant the inevitable relocation to London. During this time Rico favoured the DJing as a more expressive release but became more and more involved and responsible for promoting an endless succession of incredibly successful events to the extent that there were sometimes as many as three separate events on one night. Rico amassed a lot of experience and made many contacts whilst perfecting his talents, not least his talent for creativity, which eventually took him to Prague. But it doesn’t end there, Rico’s high profile cooperation with ‘Elite Look’ and the MTV Network Europe, led to the creation of the ‘MTV’, ‘Elle’ and ‘Radost Fx club’ party extravaganza, In addition to the creative input for countless parties and events, Rico settled into an incredibly successful residency at the ‘Radost Fx club’ club and built his proprietary ‘Soul Train’ into the number 1 R’n’B party in the Czech Republic. With such an illustrious career behind him, Rico is still leading from the front with his vinyl in one hand and a microphone in the other. www.mvpmusic.co.uk . He was born in St Louis Mo., U.S.A. and spent the second half of his ‘young life’ in the city of Chicago during the 80’s and 90’s. In Chicago, He witnessed the birth of House music and became a regular partier at legendary house clubs like the Music Box and the original Wharehouse during the early 80’s. Soon after, Hip Hop and Rap music began to dominate the urban music seen in the U.S.A. and the focus for my love of music changed to the raw beats and slick ryhmes of early hip hop stars like Run D Mc, Grandmaster Flash, Kutis Blow, The Sugarhill Gang and others. He was and always will be one of the biggest fans of Hip Hop culture and Rap music. However he find that Rap music (Black moon, Krs one , Wu tang etc,) is a little hard for Europeans to dance to. And, in Europe the dance floor is very important. If you as a dj can’t make the girls dance and scream then your parties will be full of young b-boys drinkin, smokin and nodding their heads. But we know that is not a party! So, the style of music that he choose to play is R&B/HipHop like Amerie, Destiny’s Child, J-Lo, Usher and R. Kelly with a little Rap for that street flavor. Nowadays, He is playing a lot of Rap because Rap artist like Snoop, Dre, Lil John, 50 Cent and Nelly are making Rap songs for the dance floor .He is however, no stranger to house music. He is a lover of all styles of music from Breakbeat to Ghetto tech, House to Disco. So, it is quite common for him to swing the dance floor from R&B to House and back again. I am not a Turtabalist ,although I do cut and scratch a bit, I am a DJ and I play music to make the young girls scream! And that’s a party Kid! He also sings and in the year 2000 he hit it big on the Czech Republic’s club scene with a deep house song he wrote and sang with a local dj called ‘Goodbye Illusions’. The song was popular on the Czech club charts and was remixed by the legendary deep house producer Charles Webster and others. He has perfomed this song often over the years in clubs and at parties. In addition, he has written songs for and peformed on the albums of well-known Czech pop stars. He has played all over western Europe and in places such as Sweden, Egypt, the Ukraine, Belerus, Algeria, Romania and the Slovak republic and have been djing in Prague for 15 years where I have had many monthly and weekly residencies at clubs and bars around the city. The most successful of all of my residencies has been the Soultrain R&B Parties at club Radost FX, which we have been doing , without fail, for more than 15 years now. This is the best R&B party in The Czech Republic and our dj’s are the best R&B dj’s from Prague, France, London and as far as the U.S.A. He has had the pleasure of djing with people like of Afrika Islam, Mj Cole, Darryl Pandy, Femi Fem of the Young Diciples, Artful Dodgers, Dj Maceo of De La Soul, Guest Love of the Roots, Wesley Snipes and many others well-known names and faces. Every week on Saturday night we blend R&B, Rap, HipHop,Bhangra and Ragga to create an atmosphere that is hard to forget! I play all styles of music. My specialties are R&B, Breakbeat & Funky House.
